Buff Orpingtons were originally bred in England in the late 1800's. They are one of the most popular breeds of chickens in America today. They are large stately birds with a quiet disposition. They are excellent winter layers, with a constant supply of brown eggs through the coldest of weather. They are also great setters and mothers. Baby chicks are a light buff color when hatched. The mature weight for a male is 10 lbs. and a mature female is 8 lbs.
